Moisture Festival 2004

I wasn't sure if I still had any of these. But after a bit of searching, I found this image, taken April 1, 2004. Here we have one of the earliest Moisture Festival photographs, taken as publicity for the first festival

Moisture Festival (take 8)

Seven years ago I took some photographs to promote an upcoming new vaudeville and varieté festival called the Moisture Festival. Little did we know that this show which started in a circus tent in a parking lot in Fremont (Seattle, WA) would quickly grow to be one of, if not the largest vaudeville festivals in the world.

I don't remember how many shows we did the first year. I was in one of the house bands at that time and didn't take photos of the shows. I think it went for two weekends. This year it goes for almost a month and has more than 50 shows spread out through 4 venues.

The 8th Annual Moisture Festival kicks off this week on Thursday night. Instead of showing photos of the shows, I picked out some of my "Faces of the Moisture Festival" backstage photos of performers, staff, and volunteers to share.

The shows all sell out each year, so hurry to get your tickets.

Enjoy!

The Moisture Festival

It is almost here! The 8th Moisture Festival, featuring vaudeville, circus, aerial, burlesque, and more. Tickets are already on sale for the 50 or so shows taking place at Hales Palladium, ACT Theater, Georgetown Ballroom, Open Space for Arts and Community (on Vashon Island), and SIFF (Seattle International Film Festival).

Things got started last night with a Valentine's Day fundraiser at Hales Palladium. It felt great to be back "home" there. Love the lights! Here are a few images from last night's show, featuring Mae West (Caela Bailey), Acrophelia & Dr. Calarmari, and Hugh Sutton (Salamity Clam).

Michelle Bates, Mark Gardinder, and I have also put together a book of photos from the first seven years of the Festival that you can find on the festival website. Please note that the bookstore listed there (Fremont Place Books) is sadly closing their doors at the end of February 2010.

I look forward to seeing you at some of the shows!

Busker Sadness

It has been a rough few weeks in the new vaudeville and busker community, especially in Seattle. Well known Pike Place Market busker Jim Hinde passed away on Tuesday, June 10 (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2004470157_hindeobit11m.html) and I just heard that another favorite, Sandabeth Spae of Amber Tide, passed away a few days ago. I have not been able to find an online reference. You can learn more about her at the Women Buskers Museum.

Here are a couple of photos I recently took of these great artists at the Seattle Moisture Festival. I miss both fo them already.

There will be a memorial for Jim at the Pike Market on Wednesday, July 2 at 7pm.

The Moisture Festival Returns

Yes, it is that time of year again. Sunny Seattle hosts the 5th Annual Moisture Festival.

I'll be there in my usual roles as photographer and musician. The accompanying photo is from the volunteer orientation party. It takes a very large group of fantastic volunteers to keep the festival up and going. Sandy Palmer and Katherine Bragdon cheer on Ron Bailey and entertain the volunteers. See last year's volunteer team at http://cornicello.blogspot.com/2007/04/time-to-rest.html

See the 2007 schedule at http://www.moisturefestival.com and order your tickets early. The shows sell out!
