Worldwide Photo Walk at Pike Market

Yes, I just posted some photos from the Pike Place Market in my last post. But a few days later I found myself back at the market joining up with the worldwide photo walk folks.

Pike Place Market Buskers

At the end of summer the Pike Place Market folks put in a festival to show off all the great buskers* to perform daily at the market.

September 18, 2011 was the date of the latest festival. It had been a few years since I was able to make it to the festival, and as usual, I found a number of really wonderful performers, some of them completely new to me (such as Jobo Shakins). Here are a few of the images I made at the festival. You can see many of these performers year-round at the Market. If you run across them, please drop some money in their hats to help support this great tradition.

This is the big weekend of Lighten Up and Shoot at CreativeLIVE. I hope you are getting a chance to watch the free live stream going on this weekend.

Mike and Andy have been putting on a great class about getting out and taking photos, concentrating on the experience, rather than the technicalities. As their name says, Lighten Up and Shoot! Last night I had the pleasure to accompany Mikey, Andy, students and staff folks from CreativeLIVE as we headed to the Pike Place Market and Victor Steinbruck park for an evening of photography.

We got a chance to approach strangers to ask them to be photographed. And we also had people come up to us and ask to be photographed. Great experience for all involved. Here are some photos from the evening...

Returning to People

In one of my last posts I promised to get back to photographing people. When I wrote that I was thinking of studio work. But this morning I got together with a group of locals and headed out to Seattle's Pike Place Market to photograph people.

Though I'm primarily thought of as a "people" photographer, taking photos of strangers is not my idea of a good time. I want to enjoy it, but I just don't look forward to picking strangers out of crowds. I want to know the folks I photograph. But tend to be too shy to just walk up to someone on the street, befriend them, and then take their photo. Not a skill I've ever developed, and not sure that it is one I want to pursue. So, hoping to be back in the studio later this week.
