Circus Syzygy in Seattle

The last time I saw Ben Wendel and Rachel Nehmer was about 1-1/2 years ago at their beutiful tree house wedding just outside of Seattle. They've spent that time in Europe working on a new show with Circus Syzygy with Mick Holsbeke and Terry Crane.

Circus Syzygy is just finishing up a 5-week residence at Seattle's School of Acrobatics and New Circus Arts (SANCA) with a presentation of their show, Living Bridges. There are only three performances left (Saturday at 3 and 8 and Sunday at 8) before they head back to Europe. Do yourself a favor and get out to see the show if you can. It is always fun and exciting to get a call from Charly asking me to work on a new concept photo for the Cabiri performance group.

We've done some fun underwater photos, we've gone to Mt Rainier in the snow, and we've documented shows. And now we get to work in the "studio" (the studio being the SANCA workspace, but I got to bring in lights and treat it as a location studio).

Nice Night for Flying

Last night (June 4, 2011) SANCA (the School of Acrobatics & New Circus Arts) held their Summer Fly Show, featuring their Junior Fly Team, along with the adult and intermediate teen flying trapeze students. They have a great facility in the Georgetown section of Seattle that provided a nice overall soft light. When I first got called in for this assignment I was worried that I might have to use electronic flash. But the longer summer days and the white tent provided me with enough light to capture these images.

SANCA -- Up, With A Twist

The School of Acrobatics and New Circus Arts (SANCA) in Seattle held their annual fund raiser last week in the Teatro Zinzanni tent. They raised over $63,000 that evening that will be used to support SANCA's programs, including our Youth Scholarship Fund, Circus Outreach Program and Youth Performance Programs.
